The Medicare open enrollment period for runs from Oct. 15, 2018 to Dec. 7, 2018 for people who want to reevaluate their health care and prescription drug coverage. The University of the Pacific Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is hosting 13 public events with the Mobile Medicare Clinics outreach program across northern California to help patients pick the right Medicare Part D drug plan.
In the last 11 years, the school has helped more than 6,600 beneficiaries save almost $7 million on their out-of-pocket drug costs, including 24.1% low-income beneficiaries.
Dr. Raj Patel and Dr. Carly Ranson from University of the Pacific are joined by undergraduate Caitlin Tipple to talk about how the clinic connects pharmacists and students with seniors in the community to help save money and optimize coverage.
CORRECTION: The live broadcast version of this segment incorrectly stated that the California Nurses Association opposes Proposition 8, but they in fact have not taken a position on it. The segment also stated that most dialysis patients are covered by Medi-Cal, but Medicare actually pays for most dialysis treatment in California. The incorrect statements have been removed.
