Erik Satie (L) and Samuel Barber (R) are best known for a single work, but have written so much more.
They are probably the two most recognizable and best loved works of the 20th century—one American, the other, French.
And yet, they may be the only pieces by their composers that most music lovers really know.
In this hour, along with Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and the Gymnopédie No. 1 of Erik Satie, we’ll explore other music by those composers, long overshadowed by the popularity of these two famous pieces.
