As the National Weather Service forecasts call for more rain and snow in northern California, a group of people are out looking for weak spots in the levee system.
As Sacramento County workers struggled to shore up a boil in a Cosumnes River levee at the Wilton Road Bridge, employees of reclamation districts throughout the state are patrolling their sections of levees.
Kyle Lang manages two districts Districts 1600 and 537, near West Sacramento. He and his crew have been testing water pumps and inspecting sections of the levee.
"We're patrolling the levee and just looking for any slips or basically anything that doesn't look good on a levee and noting it, and then, if we need sandbags or whatever, to maintain it," says Lang.
He and his crew were on their way to figure out why one of the pumps on their 16 mile stretch of levee is not working.
There are 13,000 miles of levees in California.
