Sacramento County says a lot more dogs are arriving at the animal shelter on Bradshaw Road. Kim Nava with the shelter says the number of dogs being dropped off is up by more than 20-percent.
"We're overcrowded. What we're having to do for a significant number of dogs is for the smaller dogs to have three, four, even five dogs to a shelter or habitat and for the large dogs we're having to double it up."
Nava says they don't know why they're receiving so many dogs.
"You know, we're not really sure. We're actually sort of lucky. We have quite a few dogs and this is kitten season but we don't have too many cats. So for some reason the dogs are coming in just a quickly as we can get them out."
The shelter is lowering adoption fees this month to encourage more dog adoptions. Usually it costs more than $100 to adopt a dog...but that's been reduced to $25.
