(AP) - Officials say two inmates at a maximum-security Northern California prison have killed a third inmate.
Correctional Lt. Tony Quinn says 33-year-old Humberto Torres was stabbed multiple times Thursday afternoon at California State Prison-Sacramento. An inmate-made stabbing weapon was found.
Three correctional officers were treated for minor injuries. They fired rubber bullets and used pepper spray and pepper spray grenades to break up the attack.
Prison officials say 38-year-old Rudy De Lossantos and 33-year-old Michael Robles are suspected in the slaying. Both are serving life sentences for murder, De Lossantos from Orange County and Robles from Riverside County.
Torres was serving a life sentence for a Lake County murder.
Inmates are locked in their cells as the investigation continues.
The prison houses more than 2,300 inmates 20 miles northeast of Sacramento.
