Seven officers and six horses from the California Highway Patrol's Mounted Patrol Unit will march in the Tournament of Roses parade this year.
Officer George Grenada says this is the first year the department has participated.
"It's huge to be noted for having a unit that is here at the State Capitol that does just regular duties," says Grenada. "They're used for patrol units, used for civil disobedience obviously the community loves to see the horse unit. They perform a lot at community events as well."
The mounted unit was created 30 years ago.
This will be the 128th year for the five-and-a-half-mile parade in Pasadena.
