One of the main entrance roads to Yosemite National Park is closed at least through the weekend as crews work to remove a rock slide.
The Park Service says roughly 4,000 tons of rock detached yesterday Monday from a cliff above Highway 140, about 20 miles east of Mariposa, just inside the park boundary.
About a third of the debris piled up along a 150 foot stretch of the roadway, and is up to 20 feet deep in some places.
Both the Highway and an adjacent retaining wall were damaged.
The Park Service says there is currently no estimate for when the road will reopen.
Alternative routes into the park include Highway 120 through Groveland and Highway 41 through Oakhurst.
