The city of Sacramento announced winners for its Creative Economy Pilot Project Monday (see the full list below). The pilot project's goal is to increase economic activity and improve public spaces in neighborhoods.
Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined Beth Ruyak on Insight the day after applicants found out if their project won funding from the city.
"I gotta tell you, it's going to be the beginning, not the end of this. And so those who didn't get grants, don't give up because the city is invested in building a center for art and culture," Mayor Steinberg said.
The program offered half a million dollars in funding for projects like art installations, street performances, and pop-up events. The money is broken up into micro-grants of $5,000 and larger grants of $25,000.
The city told applicants who did not win funding that demand for grants was 12 times more than the available funding.
Applicants submitted proposals in July, and they were notified by email last week whether they earned a grant from the city for their project.
