San Joaquin Regional Transit is the winner of this year’s Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award.
It’s the highest award in the industry handed out by the American Public Transportation Association for both the United States and Canada.
The department’s CEO Donna DeMartino said capital improvements such as the Downtown Transit Center, new fare vending machines and mobile ticketing technology made a difference.
“Considering all the transit agencies throughout the United States and Canada, the fact that we here in Stockton won is a really big deal and we’re super proud of it,” DeMartino said.
RTD sees 12,000 passengers daily and almost 4 million annually. It was one of the first transit agencies in the nation to test hybrid and all-electric buses, and is scheduled to be the first to convert its entire fleet in Stockton to electric by 2025.
