The California economy appears to be extending its strong start to 2015.
The March jobs data out Friday show California employers added nearly 40,000 jobs last month. The professional and business services sector led the way in total job growth, but the largest growth by percentage was in construction – an industry that’s considered key to California’s economic recovery.
And even though the state revised its February job gain down slightly, it’s still an impressive start to 2015: 128,000 new jobs in the first quarter. California has added nearly half a million jobs over the last year.
Meanwhile, the state’s unemployment rate continues to improve as well: It dropped two-tenths of a point to 6.5 percent. That’s now only one point higher than the national average.
