The story of the 1841 French ballet “Giselle” by French composer Adolphe Adam is the stuff of European fairy tales (and horror movies): vengeful young lady spirits put spells on living young men that make them dance until they drop dead from exhaustion. Except for the ghost of Giselle who protects her still-living man, that she loved in life, from that fate. A suite of the music from “Giselle” is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
