(AP) - Officials overseeing California's high-speed rail project are proposing more changes to address concerns raised since they recommended major changes to the route.
Still, the changes staff proposed Thursday at a meeting in San Jose won't affect most people watching the $64 billion project.
They include shifting the Central Valley starting point to Merced and adding a station in Wasco, in the Central Valley.
High-speed rail has come under renewed fire since officials proposed rerouting the train so it goes from Central California to San Jose first rather than to the Los Angeles area as initially planned.
CEO Jeff Morales on Thursday tried to reassure nervous Southern California officials that the project is still committed to traveling south to the Anaheim area and pledged $4 billion in investments there.
