I’m interested in how health care policy impacts Sacramento and California, who gets access to care and the issues facing health care providers.
It’s no secret that health care in the United States is complicated. My hope is to shed light on stories of people trying to get care and the experiences of those providing treatment.
I believe that all people can and should be truth-seekers, and I can’t do this reporting without the help of the community.

A jury is tasked with deciding whether 21-year-old Carlos Reales Dominguez would be able to understand his criminal trial and assist in his defense. A court-ordered psychologist says Dominguez is a “textbook example” of someone with schizophrenia.

Over 100 health care workers picketed at the Sacramento Arden-Arcade hospital campus, joining unionized workers across the state. Some workers say Kaiser is refusing to ameliorate a shortage that has persisted for a decade.
In the first renewal period since the start of the pandemic, Sacramento County shed 21% of its Medi-Cal cases, close to the statewide average. Advocates and community workers say the county needs to do more to make sure people don’t lose coverage.

During a visit to UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento-born U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra celebrated the “Good Food as Good Medicine” program, and shared thoughts on artificial intelligence, legal weed and more.
