Sacramento, Calif. - June 17, 2016: Capital Public Radio announces our newest reporter: Ja'Nel Johnson. She'll be covering the health care beat, tracking issues, people and events in the Sacramento region, at the state Capitol and around California and Nevada.
Johnson is excited to bring her expertise in health care reporting to Sacramento. "California is viewed by many as trendsetting when it comes to healthy policy, but what about the people affected by those policies? That's what I will be exploring-people. As someone with an interest in reporting on diverse and underrepresented communities, I look forward to exploring the stories of people with wide and varied backgrounds."
"Ja'Nel takes the helm of the health care beat during a time of significant evolution.
Aid in dying, medical cannabis, and the Affordable Care Act are just a few of the health care issues that Ja'Nel will explore in the coming months and beyond," states managing editor for news, Linnea Edmeier. "Her expertise and willingness to look at topics from all angles - impact on communities, disparity in care and policy reform - ensures we deliver the robust coverage our audience expects."
The Gary, Indiana native comes to Sacramento from Louisville, Kentucky, where she worked as the health reporter at WFPL News. Johnson is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where she received a Master of Science in Journalism. She also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Claflin University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications.
