CapRadio Begins Executive Search Ahead of Expansion
Sacramento, CA - March 8, 2023: The Board of Directors of Capital Public Radio (CapRadio) announced today they have formed a committee to begin a national search for CapRadio’s next President/General Manager. Jun Reina, who joined CapRadio in 2007 as its CFO, was appointed COO/CFO in 2012 and has served as Executive Vice President/General Manager since June of 2020. The search is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2023.
Under Reina’s leadership, CapRadio relocated to downtown Sacramento and began construction on a new state-of-the-art performance space, CapRadio Live, which is set to open this year. With those projects nearing completion, CapRadio is focused on securing a leader to usher in the next phase of its evolution into a more visible, multi-platform media company and anchor institution for the Sacramento region.
According to Board Chair Andrea Clark, “Under Jun’s leadership, CapRadio experienced unprecedented growth. During his tenure, CapRadio grew from 40 to 125 staffers and from 7 to 13 stations, now covering more than 52% of California counties. He has been a steady hand during the challenging pandemic years, and the Board is grateful for his significant contributions to the station’s growth and talent.”
Reina will continue to lead the organization until a successor is named. According to Reina, “I look back over my tenure at CapRadio with gratitude and awe for the immense talent and dedication of our staff. Together, we weathered the Great Recession and the pandemic, and we answered the call to hold equity and inclusion as our north star. As a nonprofit media company, our growth has countered the trend of shrinking newsrooms and we are at an inflection point. I know the next chapter for CapRadio will be bright, bold and vital to our audiences on all platforms.”
As part of the search process, the board plans to engage stakeholders both inside and outside of the organization to fill this key position.
