The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake hit at 8:47 p.m near Canyondam, Calif., 11 km north of Greenville. The town is just south of Lake Almanor and due east of Red Bluff.
At least 24 aftershocks had followed by 11:30pm, with the largest measuring 3.6.
The
Redding, Calif. Record Searchlight newspaper reports some damage and a rock slide blocking part of a highway.
Capital Public Radio reporters felt the earthquake across the Sacramento region, including in the Pocket, Midtown and Davis. Rivercats fans at Raley Field felt the quake too. It was also felt in Arden Arcade, Auburn and San Francisco, according to anecdotal evidence on Twitter.
