In May, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) hosted its second annual Solar Regatta at Rancho Seco Park, near Sacramento. Teams of high school and middle school students from all over Northern California were given solar panels to use to power a boat that the students designed and built. With a fraction of the resources of some of the competing schools, the Encina HIgh School’s team, aka “Encina Yacht Club,” put together an original craft and entered the race for the first time.
Capital Public Radio's Andrew Nixon followed the team and produced this video profile.
