Tracy Threlfall is with the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association of California, based in Sacramento.
“People like their air conditioning…they like for that to work. So the service and repair industry has typically done well despite economic conditions.”
Threlfall says business spikes once temperatures go over 85-degrees and people realize their ACs aren’t working. She says if your AC does go out…be sure to hire a licensed contractor.
“One of the huge problems we’re having in California is the underground economy where we have unlicensed contractors going in consumer’s homes and performing service and repair work. This creates a huge liability.”
She recommends people go on the California State License Board website to check to see if a contractor is licensed.
