Cynthia Harris is with the AAA auto club which released its latest survey. Harris says several trends are driving prices down:
“There is a large supply of gasoline and there are no refinery issues at this time. As a matter of fact, there is increased refinery production; steady crude oil prices; and also there’s a little bit less demand by consumers.”
Harris points out that the increased refinery production is a big difference from last August.
“We saw a 50-cent increase in wholesale gas overnight right after the gas explosion at the Chevron refinery in the Richmond area. So last year was a very unique period for us in California.”
In Sacramento, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.87…down three-cents from a month ago.
Harris says Marysville has the least expensive price in Northern California at $3.79 a gallon. Eureka has the highest at $4.17.
Her tips for better gas mileage include: keeping your tires at the proper pressure and making sure your car’s fluids are clean and belts and hoses are in good shape.
