Shara Perkins-Murphy heads the Sacramento LGBT Community Center which is putting on the event.
She notes that this year’s festival happens to take place on the eve of the U.S. Supreme Court’s highly anticipated decision on same-sex marriage.
“We really feel like the odds are in our favor that at the least we’ll have marriage return to California, at the best we’ll have marriage sweep the nation. And I think that this weekend and Pride Weekend is really about harnessing the energy and the passion of the community.”
The parade starts at N and 3rd streets at 11 AM tomorrow. The festival, which is a fundraiser for at-risk youth and AIDS prevention services, will be on the Capitol Mall.
And for the first time, the California National Guard will have a recruiting booth at the festival. Guard officials say they’re committed to diversity and are actively recruiting from within the gay community.
