Residents of about 50 homes remained under evacuation orders on Thursday, down from about 800 at the fire's peak earlier in the week. They have since been given the OK to go home.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the fire is now 70 percent contained, but extensive mop-up operations and patrols of the fire lines will continue.
The fire burned about 3 square miles near Mariposa. It was started by an unattended campfire that was not fully extinguished.
