Gas stoves are okay in more remote areas, but you will need a permit. Camper Ron Keen came into the National Forest office in Truckee to get a permit and learn where he can use it.
“Yes, they explain all that to you so that I know that I am not breaking the law. No one wants to go to jail, especially me, you don’t want to burn the forest down, it has been especially dry and they will let me know when and where,” says Keen.
Tahoe National Forest Fire technician, Chris Marson issued Keen the free fire permit.
“Fire restrictions are in effect so no campfires, no charcoal grills, propane stoves where they’re allowed,” says Marson.
The Forest Service also offers the reminder that fireworks are illegal in the Tahoe National Forest.
