Turner Construction is an international firm that’s had an office in Sacramento for 30 years.
Dale Koger is Vice President and General Manager of Turner’s Sports Group. “Most of our staff are avid Kings fans and this project is very special. They don’t come along very often and our employees are highly motivated to build for our hometown team in Sacramento.”
Koger says at the peak of construction, there will be about 700 people working on the project, and over the course of the two-year construction period, he expects more than three thousand will be employed. Most of those will be local contractors and vendors.
Koger says one of the challenges with the project is the urban site. “It’s totally occupied at the moment with retail and one of the big challenges will be determining the best method of deconstruction of the existing facilities that must come down before we can begin new construction.”
Koger says other issues include managing dust, traffic and noise in the neighborhood, and coordinating with electrical and sewer improvements happening at the same time.
Turner is also currently building the new football stadium for the 49ers in Santa Clara. That’s expected to wrap up next August – just a few weeks before work on the new Sacramento arena is set to begin.
