Wildfire Smoke Penetrates Air from Redding to Bakersfield

The wildfire smoke has been drifting down the coast from Oregon, and then shifting eastward.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District says a delta breeze is helping the Sacramento region.

“Because of the wildfire smoke blowing in primarily from southern Oregon, we’ve had some elevated particulate levels the last few days. The good news is that those level are lowering, and they’re primarily in the low / moderate range in the air quality index, which is really good,” says Christina Ragsdale from the Sacramento air quality district.  

But eight counties in the San Joaquin Valley region are under a health caution – they’re also seeing smoke from the Aspen fire east of Fresno. 

Air quality there is expected to deteriorate in the coming days.
