The city is holding a big party for the completion of its new $4.5 million town square.
“This is not the end of anything – this is really the beginning of something.”
Brian Jacobson with the city says the hope is that the one-acre square at Vernon Street will attract new businesses downtown. Right now, several retail sites are vacant.
“But we’re getting a tremendous amount of interest in businesses coming down here. They see the vision for the greater downtown and the town square is just the beginning of that.”
The square includes a stage for concerts and plays, a water feature with nine fountains that kids can get wet in and 60 trees.
Tomorrow’s grand opening starts at 10 AM and will include live music, food trucks and bounce houses. A rock concert will be held tomorrow night.
