ICON Venue previously partnered with the City of Sacramento and former Kings owners, the Maloof family, two years ago to plan an arena at the Railyards in Sacramento. The Maloofs claim to never have had a finalized agreement and walked away from the project, before unsuccessfully trying to sell the team to a group of Seattle investors.
In a statement today, Kings President Chris Granger said: “We now have a world-class team in place and we look forward to developing what we believe will be an important civic space, and the loudest building in sports, right here in the heart of downtown Sacramento.”
Turner had already been selected as builder.
AECOM has served as lead architect of 11 NBA arenas, including the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Aggies Stadium at the University of California, Davis.
The company says it will have conceptual renderings ready before the end of the year and that a final design for the project should be ready by the middle part of next year.
