Labor Day weekend in most years is a big moneymaker for parts of Tuolumne County which depend heavily on tourism. But now the road to Yosemite National Park is closed, and empty campgrounds are blanketed in smoke.
Groveland Hotel owner Peggy Mosely says all her rooms are booked, not by tourists but by firefighters.
"We're getting major cancellations now, in fact, that's the only way we have room for all these folks we have in here now because everyone has cancelled." - Peggy Mosely, Groveland Motel
One major attraction in the area is white water rafting on the Tuolumne River.
Isaac Ingram from ARTA River Trips says he and three other rafting companies have been turning away customers because of the fire.
"Yeah it is a significant amount of business that is right in the heart of the season, so we had to shut down just a little bit early," says Ingram.
Local restaurants, stores, and even an Indian casino have experienced business losses.
