Kings Beach at the north end of Lake Tahoe is a popular spot for recreation. But the roads can frightening for tourists like Teri Goossens.
“Well I wouldn’t want to ride a bike a round here we have done it and it is a little scary to me so,” Goossens says.
Accidents here exceed the state average by four to five times. Peter Kraatz of the Placer County Public Works Department says the $24 million project will reduce four lanes to two, install round-a-bouts, sidewalks and 20 speed bumps. Kraatz says the goal is safety.

Preliminary construction will begin in October, then work will ramp up in Spring and people are excited.
More than 100 people who live in Kings Beach showed up for the final public meeting on the project this month. James Piercy was there.
“I think it will function better for the people who live here and it definitely will look nicer,” Piercy says.
The project is also designed to improve the look of the lake by cutting in half the amount of pollution flowing from roads into into Lake Tahoe.
