Confusion over animal leash laws at Sacramento County parks has prompted a proposed change.
"We're just simply updating the ordinance to make it consistent with the American River Parkway Plan and reflect actual usage."
Liz Bellas is with the county's Regional Parks Department. The updated ordinance will be heard by the County Board of Supervisors tomorrow.
Bellas says under the amended ordinance, you'll be able to legally walk your dog along the American River Parkway asphalt trail and horse trails. But you still won't be able to bring your dog within 15 feet of a Nature Study Area.
Meanwhile, if you want to take your dog's leash off...
"You can take your dog to any of our off-leash dog parks within the Sacramento area and run your dog off leash but they do need to be leashed when they're in Sacramento County regional parks."
Supervisors are expected to vote on the revised ordinance in about two-weeks.
