The Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory study says projections don’t look promising past 2030 for reducing green house gas emissions in the state.
“The set of policies that we’ve modeled are largely silent on what to do past 2030,” says Berkeley Lab’s staff scientist Jeffrey Greenblatt. “Many of them kind of level out after that.”
State environmental officials say the report will help the state stay on top of the situation.
“We are developing this as the information becomes available and as the technology becomes available and as the situations develop,” says Dave Clegern with the California Air Resources Board.
The report suggests that the state move quickly to adopt new green technologies and efficiencies. It also recommends toughening regulations and standards.
