The state-run exchange says over 150,000 Californians have picked a health plan through Covered California as of last week.
It says November’s enrollment was double October’s.
Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee says he’s expecting a sign-up surge before the December 23rd deadline.
“We’re seeing a surge today. I just want to note that on Monday and Tuesday, 15,000 people going end to end [each day] in selecting a plan is a lot of people,” says Lee.
Lee says the number of young people who have signed up for a plan is almost proportional to the young population of California as a whole.
Almost 180,000 applicants for insurance through Covered California may instead qualify for the state’s Medicaid program.
