Andy Chapman with the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association said there's a misconception that skiing conditions are lousy because of a lack of storms.
He said ski resorts have invested millions of dollars in snowmaking equipment so they can stay open during dry seasons like this one.
In fact, Chapman's association is surveying ski resorts about their snow-making capabilities. It's asking how much snow the resorts can make in 24 hours, how much terrain their snow-making equipment covers, what kind of technology they use and how many workers it takes to operate their systems.
“What we want to do is just make sure that people understand that that technology does exist, and that it does provide for fresh snow," Chapman said. "And more importantly, it provides an opportunity for resorts to expand their terrain at a time when we may not be seeing those consistent snow fall.”
