Currently, Medi-Cal and CalFresh eligibility requires don’t match. CalFresh is the state’s food stamp program. Backers of the law say it will sync up the two programs and help struggling families get back on their feet.

More than one million Medi-Cal recipients get food stamps. Next month, the state will start informing the counties about the new law’s requirements. The counties will start reviewing MediCal eligible households to see if they also qualify for food stamp benefits.
