Experts say as little as one drink can physically impair a driver and reduce reaction times. Cynthia Harris with Northern California Triple A says it’s offering a free “tipsy tow” service for those who’ve had a few too many.
“If you find yourself in this circumstance, before getting behind the wheel, give us a call,” says Harris. “We will give you a free tow up to the first 10 miles to your home.”
Free bus and light rail rides will be available through the night in many cities around the state. Some taxi companies are also offering free rides home from bars, clubs and restaurants.
Mobile app-based car sharing companies like Lyft and Uber are ramping up service for people who want to avoid long waits. But their fares may increase up to three times the average during peak hours overnight.
