The Navy said Sunday night that the military pilot was killed when a fighter jet crashed during a training exercise.
Lt. Reagan Lauritzen said it took rescue crews several hours to reach the site of Saturday's crash on a Navy range training complex east of Naval Air Station Fallon because of a snow storm and mountainous, remote terrain.
When they got there, they determined the F/A-18C, a U.S. Marine jet on loan to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, was a total loss.
