The Los Angeles Times reports search warrant affidavits allege that about 37,000 hydrocodone tablets are missing from CVS pharmacies in Dixon, Fairfield, Modesto and Turlock.
Hydrocodone is found in drugs like Vicodin. It's one of the most widely abused prescription drugs in the United States.
Prosecutors say CVS is facing more than 2900 violations of the federal Controlled Substances Act. The maximum fine could be $29 million.
