The City of Sacramento's traffic department plans to use detours, road signs and signals to help move drivers through town more quickly. Sixteen police officers will work traffic detail to help. Jerry Way is the City's Director of Public Works.
"Our hope is, because we have a grid-style downtown is that a lot of that traffic will be dispersed. More importantly, we hope that people will understand the very huge magnitude of this project and will seek alternate modes."
Regional Transit is working with Cal Trans to make more buses and trains available.
The project has been modified to help traffic flows. Parts of the Cap City/Highway 99 connector will be closed for about 15 days instead of 40 days as was previously planned.
The project has already started. Lanes closures will begin April 22nd.
