Olympic Valley, California would include a finger of land along the Truckee River with fewer than 600 people and a big block of mountain terrain that is Squaw Valley Resort.
Until now, resort operators had been neutral on the plan to incorporate. But last week, CEO Andy Wirth asked Placer County to remove the resort from the town boundaries.
He questioned the economic viability of such a town considering the seasonal nature of the tourism business and Wirth says he’s not sure the town would provide better service than the county does now.
“We think our interests are seen to when we are working through a tried true and tested system and that has been in place for 60 years," says Wirth
A third party fiscal analysis is planned. Supporters of incorporation hope it will not only demonstrate the viability of the town, but suggest improvements.
