The post office will no longer be staying open late.
In California, post offices will be open regular hours on Tax Day. That means if you want to get your taxes in on time, you have to mail them today before 5 p.m.
Gus Ruiz with the U.S. Postal Service says so many taxpayers are filing electronically that this year there is no reason for post offices to stay open late.
"The IRS anticipates, I think, 148 million tax filings this year, of that 23 million will be paper so you're looking at probably over 85 percent of all the tax filings in the country will be done electronically," says Ruiz.
Ruiz says some mailboxes have pickup times of 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. but you should be sure to check the posted time on the collection box.
