During the "Fix 50" Project, the state of California says it's encouraging departments and agencies to tele-commuting as an option to Sacramento-area workers.
Pat McConahay is with the California Department of Human Resources. She says
45 agencies have regular tele-work programs in place all the time.
"We also sent out a policy April 3, reminding personnel officers in the various departments as well as labor individuals advising state agencies to consider using this option if they haven't before," says McConahay.
McConahay says tele-working options have to be determined by each department, since state workers do a wide variety of jobs. She says the state has to ensure that services won't be affected.
McConahay says flex-time and "alternative work week" schedules - where employees work longer, but fewer days - are also being offered in some cases.
