A small group of families and parents gathered under the trees near the Capitol to express their concern about Common Core standards. The bi-partisan group said the Common Core assessment often leaves students confused and upset.
Republican Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who is running for governor on a platform of less government regulation, says this is the time to overturn the standards.
“Lend your voice to the effort to free each school district and put the curriculum back under the control of the parents and the school board and the district instead of the government," he says.
But Donnelly doesn’t have much support in the Capitol for abandoning the standards. A bill he proposed to let districts opt out of Common Core died in committee. And a recent poll showed a majority of Californians support 5he new standards.
