Sacramento homeless and homeless advocates are camping out at the corner of 12th and C Streets in Sacramento this weekend.
The camp out is part of the second annual "Stake Down" event. Cathleen Williams with the Sacramento Homeless Organizing Committee says the event includes classes on civil rights and arts and crafts.
"We call it our arts and action camp out and it's to dramatize the need for a safe place for homeless people to be."
Event organizers have a permit from the City of Sacramento for a three-day festival on the corner's vacant lot. The area is open to the public through Sunday. Only 32 people are allowed on the property at night.
Organizers say they hope the event will help them on their mission to create an area of small cabins within the city for the homeless to live.
