Numbers out today from the state Employment Development Department, or EDD, show the jobless rate in April was 7.1 percent, down from 8.1 percent in March. George Marley with the EDD says all of the employment sectors they track either gained jobs or staid flat...but none lost jobs.
"That was probably the most interesting fact when I was looking at the numbers," says Marley. "Normally we see at least one or two industries down from the month over. In this particular month we saw nine industries up and only three - government, natural resources/mining and information - remaining steady from last month. So definitely some good numbers here that came out this month."
Job sectors with the biggest gains include: professional and business services; administrative and support; and healthcare and social assistance.
