The UC Davis School of Medicine is holding its 2014 commencement ceremonies on Thursday. The new doctors will next be pursuing internships and residency training throughout the country.
"About two-thirds of them will do that in California," says Dr. Mark Servis, one of the school's deans. "About 20 percent will be staying here in Sacramento and many of them at UC Davis to pursue their residency training. But we have graduates who are going everywhere from Boston to Seattle to Miami."
He says these new doctors will have to adjust to the changing landscape of healthcare delivery in light of the Affordable Care Act. "A good example of that is that they're going to have to learn to work effectively in teams with other health care professionals because in order to really address the healthcare needs of the country in a cost effective manner, the days of being able to be a solo practitioner and just have your own practice, are dwindling."
The graduation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the Mondavi Center on the UC Davis campus.
