(AP) -- Nevada's Democratic Party leaders are facing the embarrassing reality that the candidate topping their ticket in November will best be known as the man who beat out seven other contenders by finishing second in the primary to "none of the above."
Robert Goodman now faces the unenviable task of taking on Gov. Brian Sandoval after Democrats gave the hugely popular Republican a virtual free pass to re-election.
Goodman was Gov. Michael O'Callaghan's director of economic development in the 1970s. He captured 25 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary. "None of these candidates" had 30 percent.
UNR political science professor Erik Herzik says Democrats should've known better when they failed to field a candidate anyone had heard of. Political scientist Fred Lokken says it was an embarrassment for the party.
