The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag warnings for higher elevations in northern California and southern Oregon today and tomorrow because of thunderstorms and dry conditions.
Daniel Berlant with Cal Fire says the department is worried a week of fireworks, camp fires and thunderstorms could create problems in the Sierra.
"We've added additional firefighters on duty -even pre-positioned some resources along the Sierra to make sure we have plenty of equipment should we have more fires."
As of today, outdoor burning is prohibited in the Sierra except for campfires within fire rings at private or public campgrounds.
Campfire permits are required and are now available on line for people camping in state or national parks. They are not required for people camping at privately owned campsites.
