Cal Fire says a body has been found within the perimeter of the Bully Fire in Shasta County.
“The victim was found near a residence north of a road here in Shasta County called Plantina Road,” said Cal Fire spokesman Dennis Mathisen. “We've got early reports that the victim perished during the early hours of the incident possibly trying to attempt at fleeing the on-coming fires."
Mathisen said the victim's name would be released later.
The fire is burning near Igo, just west of Redding.
He said 2,381 firefighters are working at high elevation in heavy brush and timber to contain the fire, which has burned nearly 11,000 acres and is 47 percent contained.
The fire started July 11. Mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted for the area,
A man from Sacramento has been arrested and charged with suspicion of recklessly causing the fire and marijuana cultivation.
