The City of Citrus Heights has a plan to sell its city hall and build a new one on Antelope Road. The plan goes before the city council tonight.
City Manager Henry Tingle says the Dignity Health hospital system has agreed to pay nearly seven-million dollars for the existing building and land on Fountain Square Drive. Tingle says the construction of two new buildings would yield $49 million in economic impact.
"This is a very unique opportunity for the city to diverse our economic base and to bring job generators into the community," says Tingle.
Some people who live in Citrus Heights are opposed to the idea of moving city hall. Tim Schaefer is a businessman who has helped collect 1300 signatures opposing the plan.
"Well, the original founders of our city put in the general plan that we would have a true civic center where all the city services were concentrated in one location. That's what we're all fighting for," says Schaefer.
Schaefer says the a group called "Save Citrus Heights City Hall" has retained an attorney and will sue to stop the move if the city council approves the project.
