To help increase cargo shipments at the airport, one of the runways will be lengthened and a new landing system will be installed to help pilots during bad weather.
Diane Rogers is President of the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce. She spoke before the board Tuesday.
"We're very proud of this county and our effort to become very active and to become a player on the presence of the world stage with regards to agriculture and so many other things and this airport will continue to allow that expansion and to allow the opportunities to cargo to be flown in and out of all parts of our county."
Don VanDyke lives near Mather and says he is worried about the noise that an increase in cargo traffic would generate.
"We didn't have a problem with the military traffic That was mostly during the daytime. It still is today. It's the cargo flights that are the big problem."
The Supervisors approved the runway and landing system improvements by a 3-1 vote.
