Speaking from the Assembly floor, Brown complimented former Speaker John Pérez for his leadership skills. He also joked about what he called Pérez’s “mushroom” theory of government.
“A lot of people want to be transparent, they want to know everything, but I’ll tell you, your way of keeping everybody in the dark was a real winner,” Brown said.
On the Senate side, Brown praised outgoing President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg for his “productive” tenure as leader. He also jokingly referred to Steinberg’s grand “vision.”
“You’ve got more damn vision than anyone I’ve ever met,” said Brown. “That’s because those visions have to be paid for.”
Pérez led the Assembly for four years before stepping aside earlier this year. Steinberg held the Senate’s top post for the past six years.
